Scott Kuffner
Artist
Scott Kuffner is an American-born painter, draftsman, and print media artist currently living in Florence, Italy. He studies at Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute, where he is pursuing a BFA in Studio Art through his home institution, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Working with mediums such as oil paint, silverpoint, screen printing, etching, and charcoal, Kuffner begins with a reflection on art history. He previously worked in the fashion industry, founding his brand Human Error, where he screenprinted his two-dimensional works onto garments and found materials—combining contemporary streetwear with fine art.
His recent work draws inspiration from the Novecento period of Italian art, as well as the Renaissance, Modernism, and the styles of the Miserablists. The dialogue between these periods informs his exploration of contemporary social concerns, including consumption, a return to figuration, and the melancholic imagery associated with war and political extremism.
Kuffner’s work aims to balance formal discipline with expressive freedom, bridging historical reverence and modern chaos.
